Trust

How fleetingly is valued trust,
it’s liquid under a thin crust
How easy for the shell to crack,
how quick we are to take it back.

A friendship forged in fellowship,
an apparent steadfast relationship,
but, oh, how fragile it’s proven to be
in the light of inconsequential frivolity.

How hard it proves to win trust back,
how few would seem to have the knack
to sift through wild imaginings
for remnants to which trust still clings.

But trust that’s cracked can always leak,
it’s scarred and permanently weak;
a weakness we will find our own,
in egocentric soil it’s grown.
