Obscured meanings

I obscure my thoughts with words
and wrap them in long sentences
where you would have to dig to find
for what was truly on my mind.

I play an intellectual game
of hide and seek with syllables,
so you have to struggle to find sense,
reduce my saying to meaningful essence.

I propose, second and volunteer
an endless string of grey rhetoric,
but, alas, you will not find a single thought
that passed you by, were kept, or caught.

An original poem by Miekie (Marietjie Uys).
