Teen death


Shortly after he wrote his final school exam, a distant cousin of mine got in a car to travel to a destination where he would get some work experience before starting his studies. He crashed his vehicle and died. Today's poem was written in response to this tragedy.

Teen death

Someone lit a candle in a lightless room
It's life sprang up into flickering moments
Happiness was created by it's being there
and laughter filled the room where it stood
Many promises were created by it's presence
Many plans were made for it's 
f
u
t
u
r
e.

Someone opened a window
and all too soon
the candle
was

f
e
d.
