Disappointment

Disappointment

My disappointment runs too deep
to tell in words just how I feel.
No longer planned on an even keel
the future stretches bleak and steep.

I held such idealistic hope,
treasured fondly for tomorrow
Yet, all it had for me was sorrow,
and I’m left wondering how to cope

How do I pick myself up again
to walk back to a place that spat at me.
Is there a place where I can safely flee
to lighten the load of this life’s strain?

Why can’t I find a place that’s free
of all this endless misery?

An original poem by Miekie (Marietjie Uys).
