Carrying On

How many times can one heart weep
over the same familiar sorrow?
When do you know if the heart can keep
the precious memories for tomorrow?
When do we know we will survive
the heartbreak of a loved one lost?
Or do we even want to be alive
when we consider each breath’s cost?

Yet, this day broke fresh and new
and the sun rose slowly to the sky,
tinting the earth in a soft warm hue
as it slowly and steadily passed it by.
I will be like the sun and carry on
with touching lives around me.
Then perhaps one day you will be gone,
drowned out by the love around me.
