Untamed words

My words spilled out like tumble weed
past stop signs that I did not heed.
I simply let them rush from me
exposed for all the world to see.

But when I saw the harm they’d done,
I tried to catch them one by one
and put them back from where they came.
My efforts proved to be in vain.

My words had found their liberty,
were more than they were meant to be.
All I could do was stand and wait
to reap their fruit, as was my fate.
