The photographer

Click! Click! Open, closed
the image to the light exposed
the image caught for eternity,
exposed for all who’d like to see.
Yet what you see, is not what I did -
You see a world under a lid
perfectly composed and staged
cropped, adjusted, as if caged.
I got to see the world expand
the sky unbridled over land,
I got to see the birds in flight,
I got to see the ocean’s might.
I witnessed love and joy and pain
I can testify to loss and gain
I saw that there was more to life
than mere existence without strife.
I went in search of life and found
the source where faith and hope abound.
With one foot in front of another,
the stranger’s face became that of a brother.
Click! Click! The moment is captured
but all those moments have my heart enraptured.
