Stillborn

Is there a morning left I will not mourn,
a tear I will not shed at break of dawn?
My heart was ripped out of my chest
when there was none to nurture on my breast.
There are no words to capture pain;
my attempts to do so, prove in vain,
but my grief refuses to be silent,
as it cries out its devastating sentiment.

A child is lost and it was mine,
a child I grew against my spine,
I kept it hidden in my womb
not suspecting it could be a tomb.

Is there a morning left I will not mourn
for the child they labelled my stillborn?

Trust

How fleetingly is valued trust,
it’s liquid under a thin crust
How easy for the shell to crack,
how quick we are to take it back.

A friendship forged in fellowship,
an apparent steadfast relationship,
but, oh, how fragile it’s proven to be
in the light of inconsequential frivolity.

How hard it proves to win trust back,
how few would seem to have the knack
to sift through wild imaginings
for remnants to which trust still clings.

But trust that’s cracked can always leak,
it’s scarred and permanently weak;
a weakness we will find our own,
in egocentric soil it’s grown.

is daar inspirasie ook vir my

Wait!

When love turns my heart around,
reason is not to be found.
My equilibrium becomes disturbed
and my feelings will not be curbed.
When sanity has fled my mind
and feelings made my reason blind,
can I then trust your character
to act as reason would prefer?
Or will greed gobble us up
as we on each other’s bodies sup?
Will we remember to take pause?
Will we realize the greater cause?
Between love and lust is a divide
and we are forced to decide
if the moment’s weight is heaviest
or if this choice is truly best.
Can we invest in self-denial
as I beg that we should wait a while?

Relationship Restoration

With Adam and Eve as company
You made it really easy to see
that love and peace are found in You
and You wanted mankind to enjoy it too.

The conversations must have been bliss
as you walked and talked about that and this
and all the things that were still to be,
sharing imaginative thoughts creatively.

What did it take to tear this unity asunder?
Was it a catastrophe from deep down under
the crust of the earth so carefully arranged,
or did it fall from the sky, unseen and strange?

It was not a thing with a tangible touch.
Alas! it did not even require that much.
It was mere words that pulled them apart,
a frail suggestion, that broke God’s heart.

Would this chasm between God and man
forever stand in the way of God’s plan,
or could the divide be bridged again,
by One who did not carry sin’s stain?

No earthly man could succeed to restore
man to God, as things had been before,
until the Son decided to give His own life
and to end the eternal enmity and strife.

When Jesus died, He captured captivity,
and when He arose, man had been set free,
his body and spirit had been restored,
with a price too steep for man to afford.

Then God again came down to the earth
to walk with mankind, as at its birth.
This time God chose to remain inside
the man in whom He took such pride.

Yet, man would choose to reject Him still,
striving to please his own whim and will,
yet, there are still a scattered remnant
whose faith is founded in strong cement.

God again walks and talks with man
just as in His original creation plan
Man gets to choose to say yes or no
and it determines if God will stay, or go.

Love-Song

If a dove could sing our song,
it would sing that we belong,
that our love was clear to see
an undeniable reality.

If the crow could screech it out
to anyone who was about,
he’d tell of gentle tenderness,
enraptured love and gentleness.

The nightingale would also sing
of the beauty that you bring
to me who wish to know the thought
with which my loving heart was caught.

The Risk

Would you like to take another shot
at that which you still haven’t got
or do you think it’s too much trouble,
that it would compromise the bubble
which you’ve created as a hide-away
in which you can safely and securely stay?

Yet, a risk is still something worth taking
for the effort you’ll need to be making.
Simply focus your attention on the goal
to find how it could satisfy your soul
if you could but only once grab its hold.
Do take the risk! Be brave! Be bold!

Ode to coffee

The milk comes from a giant metal jug
and sugar spooned from a matching bowl,
what comfort at the bottom of my mug
the elixir seeming to settle in my soul.

What joy from sipping coffee, I derive
at morning, noon, or even late at night
It seemingly gives meaning to my life
as I repeatedly indulge in its delight.

Afhanklik

My Vader, hoor my as ek bid,

Vader maak my ook toegerus
en laat my geestelik verfris,
want hierdie stryd is nie teen vlees,
maar teen 'n ander bose gees.

Omgord my dan met U waarheid
en die beskerming van geregtigheid,
klee my voete ook met hoop
om op U vredespad te loop.

Laat my kop dan ook verstaan
dat ek nie langer skuldig staan,
en plaas dan in my hand geloof
om vurige aanslae uit te doof.

Laat U Gees dan my hand optel
om die waarheid oor U te vertel,
en laat my in U waarheid bly,
want daar is liefde volop vir my.

Vader, laat U Gees hul pyn genees,

van Oos na Wes en verder steeds;
want U koninkryk bestaan alreeds!

Defending the territory

We cling so tight to territory,
quite forgetting that the story
began with a vision from our Lord
and does not require knife and sword
to keep it in our sphere of influence,
but merely peaceful acceptance.
If God has given us this space
where giants are up in our face,
then we best be on our knees
when we hear them taunt and tease.
While focused on our lowered state,
they may not know we simply wait
for God’s insightful strategy
with which He aims to set us free.
The territory has never been our own,
we have it from our God on loan,
so, if it is His interests we protect,
we should not focus on the object,
but rather on the Owner’s will
to find if we are in it still.
Then we should sit back at our ease
to see how He brings about release.

Dreams

As night gives way to day,
and darkness turns to light,
dreams appear to fly away
and disappear from sight.

I hold my eyes shut tight
in hopes that I can remain
in the dreams of the night,
but my effort proves in vain.

Dreams do not keep company
with daylight’s stark existence.
Instead, it flees its harsh reality
for night time’s frail happen-stance.

Plig

Op 'n ry marsjeer ons af,
blink-lyf miere in gelid,
arbeiders met loon gestraf
sodat ons dinge kan besit.

Ons haas ons heen en weer
tussen huis, werk en plesier
terwyl ons goedere verteer,
verpak vir die verbruikersgier.

Ons rig die oog op vyf-en-sestig,
smag na ons geboortedag,
dan kan ons ons in lewe vestig
en wat ons wil doen, begin jag.

Intussen offer ons elke dag op
aan 'n god wat nooit versadig,
maar ons ware God is raad-op
want ons kruip weg agter plig.

Die lelies en die mossies lag
in sorgvrye Godsvertroue,
geniet elke nuwe Goddelike dag,
onstpan rustig in hul God’s behoue.
