Prayer for the lost sheep

Lord, there are so many that I pray for,
people whom I know that You adore.
Many of them seem to have lost their way,
seem to have wandered away, I should say.
I wonder if You could reach them still
and teach them again to seek Your will.
I hope You will not leave it up to them;
don’t trust the source from where their choices stem.

Father, Your Spirit will convince of sin
and He can work directly from within,
so send Your Holy Spirit to convict
and cause them turmoil and inner conflict.
Do not allow them rest or peace of thought
return them to You from whom they were wrought.
You work with endless love and patience -
lay a love-burden on their conscience.

Father, I trust them to Your care today,
Your will be done, in Jesus’ name, I pray.

Springs of life

I went to the river to bathe my soul
I sought the One who made me whole
I knew that He could give me rest
and I would put Him to the test.

He found me in that river wide
and He came closer to my side
for in His hands He held something
that could bring joy in place of suffering.

From His pierced hands water flowed
and this water was with life endowed
He gave me some of this to drink
and it would change the way I think.

I never thirsted once again
after I drank from Him who was slain,
but I also emerged completely clean
when once I knew whom I had seen.

I now have waters welling up inside
like a torrential vibrant tide
since the Spirit came to live in me
so others can also drink freely.

Dancing with the sun on your back

I pulled a rabbit from a hat.
It was the hat on which I sat,
but, oh my! what did this rabbit see
remains a mystery to me.

I saw a snail without a shell.
It was afraid that I would tell
it had been streaking all along,
though it knew quite well that it was wrong.

I kissed a frog upon a leaf
but found that kisses can deceive
for it never turned into a prince
and I haven’t seen it ever since.

I danced with the sun upon my back
as I lost myself from reality’s track
to deliver myself unto silliness
and all that I got from it was this.

Dragonfly choices

The dragonfly hovers in the air,
before darting off from here to there.
It doesn’t seem to have a plan,
but simply goes wherever it can.

I wonder if it ever makes a choice,
or listens to its inner voice.
Or do its whims always dictate
the routes that it decides to take?

Does it consider consequences,
or simply respond to incidences?
Does it know its impact on another,
or does this never become a bother?

Dragonfly, do you care to know
the effect you have on those below?
You attract with endless fascination,
but is this with calculated anticipation?

Weskus-weë

Aan die Weskus see het ek my hart kom gee,
maar die lewe loop op vreemde weë,
want wie sou kon raai dat hierdie baai
my ongetemde hart sou kon verraai?

Die wind waai wild, die wind waai koud
en die see se spoor spoel die wêreld sout
waar die druppels op my wange land
wyl ek naak lê teen die rots se wand.

Die wind die huil met woeste mag
en beur teen my met al sy krag;
laat my uitgespoel en omgewoel
met 'n hart wat klop, maar niks meer voel.

Smeekgebed

O Heer, hoor my smeekgebed
U is die enigste Een wat red,
die Een wat my nog kan uithelp,
die lewe het my so oorstelp.

Net waar ek kyk sien ek 'n nood,
selfs by hulle wat aan U behoort
Dit maak my moedeloos en moeg
as ons so onverpoosd bly swoeg.

Dus pak ek my bekommernis nou weg
en laat toe dat U my saak vir my besleg.

Jealousy

Let us talk of jealousy,
to dissect what it could be.
Let us take a closer look
at its tentacles and hooks.

Is there more than just one kind
of jealousy for us to find?
Is one kind healthy and good,
the other evil to the root?

Let us explore its origin
to see where it is all begin.
When we take a look inside,
we find the root of its abide.

This monster’s a self-centred one,
and this is where it’s all begun.
It’s when we put our own selves first,
that we develop jealous thirst.

That’s when human consumption starts;
with its poisoned envy darts,
it aims at what self-interest needs
without considering it greed.

It does not mind to isolate,
or even to manipulate,
to make sure it gets its way
with its morsel of human prey.

But let’s consider what it’s not;
it’s not love at it’s core plot.
It seeks not what the other needs
and doesn’t contain Spirit seeds.

It doesn’t know of sacrifice,
but holds love in a deadly vice.
It doesn’t care whom it destroys
by the evil schemes that it employs.

At it’s core, it speaks of lack,
of things that keep us off the track
of where God wanted us to be,
and clouds the way we think and see.

God made us with the right to choose,
knowing well that He might loose
us in the garden of Eden
where at first it all began.

If God did not use forced control
to keep us in our pre-cast role,
why do we force our will and way
on those we love to make them stay?

Constant God

Through the sunshine, through the rain,
in my joy and in my pain,
You are my constant, present Companion
and of my cause, You are the Champion.

Through the heartache and the sorrow,
You give me hope for a new tomorrow,
You know my innermost desires
and equip me for all that life requires.

Through the loneliness and turmoil,
You’re the One who never did recoil,
through the upheavals of my soul,
You saw me through and made me whole.

You are a constant present Friend
Whose love simply knows no end,
You are a God Who never fails,
attached to us with blood and nails.

Seeking an answer

If only You would talk to me
that I might know Your plan,
I would submit consensually
and leave, or take, this man.
But now I simply do not know
or pretend to understand,
how this thing that hurts me so,
receives Your silent command.
You could give me clarity
amidst this jumbled chaos,
and help me to see clearly,
what is gain and what is loss.
Instead, You keep Yourself aloof
and withhold Your Godly wisdom,
when I need Your Holy Spirit proof
that this will advance Your Kingdom.

But this is not the entire truth,
for I think that I did hear You.
Or was it but my own self-soothe?
I wish I had a clue.
Do our voices sound the same,
and is that why I can’t hear You?
And where do I then place the blame
when it turns out this was not true?
So, once more I will seek an answer
and come to You in humbled prayer;
should I leave things as they were,
or show this man how much I care?

Giving Up The Dream

I had to give up my dreams.
They were mine
and they were treasured
but they were not valued.
By me, they were.
But not by others.
They were derided,
scorned,
even mocked.
People frowned
and never understood them.
They were not pulled from a box,
did not fit into a mould,
did not belong anywhere else -
they were mine.
And I had to give them up.

And it hurts.

Everyone is always telling you to keep on dreaming,
to live your passion,
to follow your heart.
What they won’t tell you,
is how uncomfortable it makes them
when someone actually does just that.
Then their advice changes,
then they want to be rational,
then they bring out saws and hammers
to reshape your thinking
so you will fit back in the box
from which you never came
but they assumed you did.

But it hurts.

So you don’t.
You simply die;
piece by piece,
little by little,
moment by precious moment,
you die.
For this is not your life you’re living
and if it’s not yours,
then you are dead,
but still in motion.

And it hurts.
