I wept and then I wept no more

I wept and wept and wept some more
for things that were not as before,
for people hurting in my wake
whom life would seem to overtake.

I wept and then I prayed again
for things that were both now and then,
for people whom I got to know,
whose memories I took in tow.

I prayed and then I wept no more,
I saw the blood-soaked cloth You wore,
You took the pain and hurt Yourself,
restored to us, our peace and health.

I prayed and saw Your Spirit rise
above the human strife and lies,
I saw You take Your holy place
among the fallen human race.
