Feigned Innocence

How long does it take to reach a conclusion
from which we innocently seek absolution
so that we can live our lives free of blame,
preserving our good honour and our name?

How can we avoid the heart’s contusion
with mutually beneficial exclusion
if we fail to recognize our lack and shame,
pretending innocently it is a mere game?

There seems to be an unnatural fusion
in this guilty innocent illusion
where innocence makes the guilty tame
but where guilt has laid the innocent lame.
